Growing up as an immigrant

Crystal Perez detailed her life of coming to the United States at age 3 to Geary, OK with parents. With some time in Kansas City, she eventually settled and graduated from Watonga High School. She remembers asking her parents at an early age if she was a citizen of the United States. This goad was accomplished in 2010. She has been employed by Blaine County for a number of years and currently serves as the elected Blaine County Treasurer.
Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo which commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces. Mexican forces won The Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under General Ignacio Zaragoza. It is a minor holiday in Mexico, but is widely celebrated in the United States.
Los Sonadores
Eighteen year old Zendy Arana and her 17 year old colleague performed a beautiful dance showcasing color and form.

Younger dancers performed a dance of the state of Nuevo Leon.

The young men demonstrated some fancy bootwork, as did the young ladies.
A Fitting Celebration of Cinco de Mayo
The combination of the heartfelt personal story by Crystal Perez and the cultural demonstration by Los Sonadores within the Ferguson Home was a wonderful celebration of Cinco de Mayo. See more photos and video at Facebook.com/FergusonHomeMuseum
